As you may or may not know, the governance structure within ASHA has changed. When the Legislative Council was in place, it was composed of representatives from each state based on the number of ASHA members in the state.
ASHA has moved to an Advisory Council structure with Councils for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. In Oregon, we are electing a representative to both the SLP Council and the Audiology Council. I am pleased to see that we are one of the states that has two people competing for each of these positions. It is now more than ever important to know who you are voting for because state interests are not as directly represented. However, there is an opportunity for greater access and input to the Board of Directors. I encourage you to review the candidate’s statements on the ASHA website, review their professional experience, and get to know who you’re supporting with your vote. |
