Winter 2008 Newsletter : Giving Back to the Membership

For many years, the OSHA Board has carefully and prudently saved money so that we could have a contingency fund to cover operating expenses. Our yearly conferences have been profitable and our membership is at an all-time high. Our yearly dues have remained at $55 for many years. Currently, we have a very healthy cash flow. We have adequate reserves to cover several years operating expenses and to provide for other contingencies. The board is discussing ways of using our current profits to “give back” to the membership. Some ideas presented include various outreaches to students (the future of our organization and profession) and reducing some fees such as conference fees and adding services at the conferences. Others include targeted awards and grants for various initiatives. You will soon be receiving a survey soliciting your input and ideas regarding how to now give back to the membership. If you have specific suggestions, please send your ideas to me at buckendo@ohsu.edu. The OSHA Board will talk about the various ideas received and include some of them in the survey. We are very interested in determining how you feel OSHA can best serve you.
