Abstract:
This presentation will focus both of the correct identification of compensatory articulation patterns including glottal stops, pharyngeal fricatives, posterior nasal fricatives, and mid-dorsal palatal stops as well as treatment strategies and examples for each. Many times, clinical presentation of these errors can be similar. Treatment strategies and ideas will be discussed. Patient video examples for identification will be provided.

Lisa Young Melady, M.D. CCC–SLP specializes in pediatric evaluation and treatment for those presenting velopharyngeal incompetence and voice disorders. She is an active member f the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association and the Cleft Palate Foundation. She is published in the Journal of Speech and Hear4ing Research. Mrs. Melady works at The hearing & Speech Institute, where she is Program Manager for The Pediatric voice and Resonance Program. She is also affiliated with the Northwest Center for Voice and Swallowing at Oregon Health Sciences University. |
