Marilyn A. Nippold, Ph.D.

Abstract:
Speech-language pathologists who work with adolescents frequently say they are challenged to come up with interesting speaking tasks for these older students; that they are unsure of how adolescents should be using language; that they have difficulty identifying key linguistic elements,; and that they are unsure of what to do with the information to plan intervention.  This presentation will offer guidance in how to conduct language sampling with adolescents.  The presenter will offer engaging activities designed to assist the professional to gain insight into adolescents’ natural language production.  Suggestions for using the information to plan intervention will be offered.
